U S Sen McSally said the reason she didn’t report it at the time was because she didn’t trust the system. I can understand.
Her utter disregard for the lives and reputations of the dozens of officers in her command structure who didn't harm her is contemptible.
I don’t understand. I was in the Air Force at the same time. I knew several women who came forward with accusations. Unfortunately, their accusations didn’t hold water since the men they accused of raping them were not in the same COUNTRY as them at the supposed time of the rape.
Still, particularly post-Tailhook, the military was quite open to accusations. When one of my Wing Commanders was promoted, it was revealed he was having sex with a Captian and had promised her help with her career. When he didn’t deliver, she accused - with times and evidence - and he was thrown out. She, OTOH, had no retribution against her - although she had been a willing partner for quite some time.
I saw no evidence the military was covering up rapes. Women who made accusations were handled with kid gloves.
