Senate GOP eyes big vote against Trump

Opposition to President Trump's emergency border declaration is snowballing in the Senate, forcing Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to scramble for a way to avoid a major embarrassment for the president.

While McConnell has long viewed a resolution of disapproval backed by Democrats as likely to pass the Senate, support for the measure is growing. Some senators and aides say they think it could get as many as 15 Republican votes, which would put it in striking distance of a veto-proof majority.

"Members of the Senate ought to have a real problem and not be flippant about allowing the president so blatantly to go around the Article I power of the purse. This is what separates us from the rest of the world. We have a rule of law," said a GOP senator who put the high-water mark for Republican support at 15 senators.

New names surfacing as possible defectors on next week's vote include Sens. Jerry Moran (Kan.), Todd Young (Ind.), Mitt Romney (Utah), Ben Sasse (Neb.), Ted Cruz (Texas), Mike Lee (Utah) and Ron Johnson (Wis.), who all have expressed constitutional concerns in recent days.

Come 2020, if I were Trump I wouldn’t hit the campaign trial with any of the POS republicans. Let them fend for themselves.

The big money donors have ordered the Senate Republicans to jump, and the only question is how high

GOPee planning to sustain their goal of open borders.

This open borders policy has been going since at least the 1965 Drunken Ted Immigration Bill.

If he vetoes I wouldn’t be surprised to see more RINOs cuck to overturn. Back-stabbing is what they do best.

Major embarrassment for the President?

No, a victory for the death to America crowd. No wall means no defined, defended border and in essence, NO America.

A those immigrants are leaving totalitarian shit holes to come to the American Dream... which the democrats are seeking to destroy.... and install a totalitarian regime.

Trump should have let Beto win that seat. There’s obviously no difference between the two on immigration.

I believe they will come up with a veto prof majority in both the house and the senate. mcconnel knew this all along. This clearly indicates they have the votes to impeach and remove at the least little infraction. The dems will own the next election cycle. Not because dems have the support of a majority of American voters, but because the base will be so disgusted with rpublicans.

I have a different idea. How about a primary challenger going up against every Republican who votes against this measure which is aimed at protecting America and Americans.

PS: I come from Parkway 117 exit area and now live in Fla.

Members of the Senate need to be mindful of what happens to those who don’t align themselves with President Trump.

I consider myself somewhat moderate, and a representative average Republican voter. I think ALL politicians are about as valuable as sewer sludge, but Republicans are slightly more valuable than Democrats. A Republican who aligns with Democrats against President Trump is as valuable as a Democrat, that is to say, worthless. Punish them at the ballot box.

These senators fear their big donors more than they fear Trump. That’s not surprising, since she’s been so fickle in pushing his immigration agenda, allowing Ryan and McConnell to block it for more than two years. I wouldn’t be surprised if he withdraws his emergency declaration instead of risking a big defeat. He hasn’t had the fortitude or discipline to face down the GOPee up to now. I’d love to see that change, but I’m not expecting it
