Midwest myopia: Democratic activists fear another Wisconsin snub could fuel Trump victory in 2020

Wisconsin Democrats fear they are about to ignored again by national leaders as the party weighs whether to hold its 2020 presidential convention in Milwaukee or Miami.

"Let's face it, Wisconsin was neglected, forgotten by Hillary Clinton," said Matt Rothschild, executive director of the progressive activist organization Wisconsin Democratic Campaign. He was referring to Clinton's fateful decision not to campaign at all in the state during the 2016 general election campaign.

He suggested that national party leaders are being influenced by big-money donors and tantalized by Miami's beaches and trendy clubs at the expense of the Midwest. "Democrats in Wisconsin aren't super-wealthy folks," he said.

Sometimes I think the best way for Trump to win is to go after his own party as well. They have shown him no loyalty. He has to technically run as a republican, but that doesn’t mean he has to support them or can’t call them out when they back stab him. IMO, he should have publicly called out Paul Ryan. When he campaigns in red states he should call out their republican traitor representatives.

An error I guarantee the next Democrat candidate will not make.

Years ago, Wisconsin did not even HAVE a viable Democrat party. Instead, there was an old-line Republican party, and the “radical” Republicans, known by the adjective “Progressive Republicans”, and centered around the La Follette family. The Progressive Republicans became more and more infiltrated by elements of the Communist party, so the “Old Guard” finally read them out of the party, and there was no longer a pretext the Progressives were even Republicans any more.

In 1948, the “Old Guard” and some elements of the Progressives signed a “peace treaty”, and those few former Progressives rejoined the Republicans. Patrick J. Lucey and John W. Reynolds (both of whom later served as Governor) organized the few declared Democrats in Wisconsin to form the nascent Wisconsin Democrat party, and drew virtually all their membership from the disgruntled Progressive members who wanted nothing to do with the “peace treaty”, and the deep division continues to this day.

Milwaukee or Miami?

They could always choose Miami, Oklahoma, in a bold bid for Oklahoma's electoral vote bonanza. If Trump loses Oklahoma, he's finished.

Or perhaps Miami, Arizona, but they may not have any hotels.

AOC’s (with the Democrat Socialist Progressive Party’s) full on attack on cows will not be well embraced beyond the Cheddar Curtain.

WI actually has probably the strongest GOP party apparatus of the upper midwest... The Dems completely overplaying their hands with the recalls, and running to other states rather than do their jobs, helped build up probably the strongest ground apparatus of any GOP up this way.

They should have the 2020 RNC in Detroit or Pittsburgh.

What about lamb, sheep, and goat farts? Don’t they harm the environment too? These are staples throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East. I guess it would be racist to ban feta cheese and lamb kabob.

We live in Washington County WI, just a bit Northwest of Milwaukee County. The Milwaukee County area does not have sufficient hotel rooms for a convention as big as the DNC convention. The new Milwaukee Bucks arena is nice and probably big enough but the streets leading to it and the available parking in the downtown area it’s in are not big enough to handle the traffic. It would be a week of gridlock. We hope it goes elsewhere.
