PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine's U.S. senators are working with a bipartisan group of colleagues to call for an increased number of work visas to help small businesses find seasonal workers.

Republican Susan Collins and independent Angus King are asking the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to bump the number of H-2B visas...They want the department to increase the 66,000 cap on the visas to more than 135,000.

Yes, Tump’s management and now his WH staff are mostly globalist hacks.

Ok, let me get this straight, 150+ years after the end of the Civil War a member of the "Party of Lincoln" now wants to import indentured servants, probably many from Africa.

LOL!

"It's not slavery when we do it!"

Abusing the work visa program to import a bunch of cheap labor so companies can crush the bargaining power of Americans in their own country is not the free market. = The Republican Party Platform.

“cannot find any locals who are willing to work at the wages I am offering".

Fixed it.

YOU and others seem to not understand the current condition of the labor market for seasonal employers or any idea how the H2B program actually works.

Stagnant wages for 30+ years is all anyone needs to know.

Sounds like a “We must destroy the village to save the village” moment.

They should accept a slowly deteriorating economy rather than change their demographics. They will rue the day.

I live in Maine.

During the summer, the coastal areas are deluged with people visiting from other states and other countries.

The motels, hotels, restaurants, etc. are always complaining about a lack of workers.

I would rather see these jobs go to Americans, instead of foreign nationals.

And what happens when these seasonal workers become unemployed in the winter months? The tourism industry dries up in the winter. Will they go back to their home countries? I doubt it. Will these foreign workers then get EBT cards, welfare, etc. etc.?

Not a good idea.

This is all about seasonal workers. Tourist towns can not find enough waiters, waitresses, etc. because in the summer tourist season the population in towns like Camden, Bar Harbor quadruple in population.

This is also a problem in ski season in places in NH, VT & ME. In Bretton Woods , NH which is the largest ski area in NH, there just are not enough people to fill the jobs required to run three hotels and a ski resort. Therefore, they bring in VISA workers from Brazil in the winter to help run the ski area and hotels, restaurants, bars and gas station. Bretton Woods is a small town in the middle of the mountains. Its full time year round population is 112 people. Most of these young people they bring in live in a dormitory or the older rooms in the Mt. Washington hotel that do not get rented out. They come up north in our winter during their summer vacation. I have also met young Dutch decent people from South Africa working at Okemo ski area in VT.

If you go to places like Nantucket, Martha Vineyard or Block Island in the summer you will meet a lot of young kids from Ireland that work at there in the summer when the population of those islands is 10x their off season numbers.

Years back we went to Grand Cayman. The girl(20 year old) that was a cocktail waitress at our hotel on Seven mile beach was from Vancouver. She worked at our hotel from December through April. She made enough Cayman dollars with the exchange rate(double) to pay for University in Canada the rest of the year.

“As far as the state goes, I don’t recall Trump getting much support from anyone up there...”
__________________________________________________________

You could not be more wrong about that.

I live in Maine’s Second Congressional District, which covers 80% of the state. It is more than 27,000 square miles, making CD 2 the largest congressional district in area east of the Mississippi.

Candidate Donald Trump made a number of visits to the state in 2016, as did Don Jr., Eric, Eric’s wife Lara, etc.

Donald Trump won this district by 10 points. Maine apportions it’s electoral votes just like Nebraska. Granted, Maine has only two congressional districts, but by winning CD 2 handily candidate Trump received one electoral vote.

The Hildabeast won the more liberal 1st congressional district, which covers 20% of the Maine in the southeast corner of the state. It also is much more populated.

The Wicked Witch of the West Wing received one electoral vote for carrying THAT congressional district.

Ms. Rodham won the statewide vote by 2.9%, largely because of the much larger population of CD 1. Also, she ran far more TV ads than candidate Donald Trump.

Even now, I see people wearing MAGA hats, Trump in 2020 clothing, and more and more Trump / Pence bumper stickers.

I know several people who moved here from Massachusetts, and they are all conservatives...at least the ones that I know.

No thanks.

Maine already has Mexicans and Central Americans, as well as a number of Haitians.

Back in 1990, I saw season blueberry rakers working the fields. They were almost all white Americans.

Now, they are Mexicans, Central Americans, Haitians, etc.

Huge numbers of young people leave Maine for greener pastures in other states with more, and better paying, job opportunities. This has been a problem for a long time.

What’s the by far biggest failure in our Immigration processes? Where are the largest numbers of violations?

HINT: VISAs

So the Twin Twits from Maine think we should increase the abuse.

You want in? Fine, you pays your own way.No free trips to the local Hospital. No ItbeFree cards.YOu get prego while here you must leave before you are 7 months along. No Anchor baby for you.You spawn an offspring while here and we find out we send you home while confiscating what you have to help pay for the little shit....oh and you will wear an ackle braclet until you leave. Violate your visa, we hunt you down and send you home. You also earn a big Ole “You can never return” stamp on that visa...

Very well spoken and spot on. I am very proud to have been the one who made 3 commercials for a Trump PAC in the state of Maine. He as well as his family made several trips up here. People may not know it and what they should do is not post a knee jerk reaction but spend 15 minutes researching this through Bing or duckduckgo to get the facts.
