Cohen’s “crimes” are laughable. Inflating the value of medallions for collateral? Does anyone know what a piece of property is worth before you sell it? The banks know all that. That’s why they won’t loan more then 80% of stated value. And why they have appraisers to verify. Only government attorneys think there’s some price fixed by some omnipotent sales god in the sky. Cohen wrote down his numbers and the bank made the loan. That means they took the risk. Anyone in business knows that. And so does Mueller: but he also knows he can use it as a feeble charge and fluff it up to try and pull testimony from a guy. Was Cohen evading taxes? Could be. Or it’s just “aggressive accounting” as they say - and a matter for him and his accountant to argue with the IRS. Done all the time. One more reason we shouldn’t have an income tax.
