Byron York: House Democrats send message: Impeachment is on

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says there is no doubt President Trump has obstructed justice.

"It's very clear that the president obstructed justice," Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler told ABC Sunday. "It's very clear — 1,100 times he referred to the Mueller investigation as a witch hunt, he tried to protect Flynn from being investigated by the FBI. He fired Comey in order to stop the Russian thing, he's intimidated witnesses. In public."

Think what you will about the reasons — calling an investigation a "witch hunt" is obstruction of justice? — but Nadler sounded less like a man weighing the evidence than a man who has has made up his mind. Given that, Nadler's ABC interview led to a question: President Nixon was threatened with impeachment for obstruction of justice. President Clinton was impeached for obstruction of justice. Why is Nadler, who heads the committee in the House that originates articles of impeachment, not moving forward with impeaching President Trump right now? Would Trump's national emergency really be an "emergency"?

"We don't have the facts yet," Nadler said — a perplexing admission for a man who had just confidently enumerated the president's crimes. "Impeachment is a long way down the road."

"We have to — we have to do the investigations and get all this," Nadler said. "We do not now have the evidence all sorted out and everything to do — to do an impeachment. Before you impeach somebody, you have to persuade the American public that it ought to happen. You have to persuade enough of the — of the opposition party voters, Trump voters, that you're not just trying to ... that you're not just trying to steal the last — to reverse the results of the last election."

Back in the days of Watergate, the whole drama started with an actual crime, a burglary and the question was whether or not President Nixon was involved.

That was back in the quaint old days when crime came first and then the investigation follows. The Democrats admit that no crime has been found and that they don't know the facts yet, but an investigation is not only warranted, it is imperative.

The reality is that in the Democrats mind, the crime was when Trump defeated the preordained first woman President in an old fashioned will of the people, fair and square election. They will not rest until they have avenged this insult and see the culprit, Donald Trump, swinging from a tree.

“Oh Where Oh Where has Democrat, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi gone? As Democrat Jews, Schiff & Nadler rant, rave and bluster over the crimes of POTUS, Donald J. Trump and the oncoming impeachment fiasco, Pelosi remains stone silent and hidden in confronting the Democrat Party, Anti-Jew, Anti-Israel, Anti-American, Pro Cuba, Pro-Venezuela, Pro-Socialist, Pro Communist “Magical Quartet” comprised of two mouthy Muslim Congress Critters, Senator, Bernie Sanders and Congress Critter, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Go figure!!!

I’d bet Nadler has a LOT of skeletons in his closet. He’s always pointing fingers. He’s made a career of crying wolf.

He especially likes to play the impeachment song, according to wiki:

Bush,[11] and more recent requests from fellow representatives, he did not schedule hearings on impeachments for Bush or Dick Cheney, saying in 2007 that doing so would be pointless and would distract from the presidential election.[12] In an interview in Washington Journal on July 15, 2008, Nadler reiterated the timing defense [13] while stating that Bush had committed impeachable offenses, but that nothing could be done because the system is “overly political”. Ten days later, following upon submission of Articles of Impeachment by Representative Dennis Kucinich, the full House Judiciary Committee held hearings covered solely by C-SPAN [14] regarding the process. A top Ronald Reagan Justice Department official, Bruce Fein, was among those testifying for impeachment.
On a similar note, referring to hypothetical impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump that would begin in the newly elected Democrat-controlled House, he suggested a “three-pronged test” that “would make for a legitimate impeachment proceeding”.

“Nadler urged the Attorney General in December 2008 to appoint an independent counsel to investigate Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and other top Bush officials for violating the law on torturing prisoners in US custody.[17]
In January 2011, Nadler called the new GOP majority’s plan to read the Constitution on the House floor “ritualistic” and complained that it treated the Constitution like “a sacred text” for “propaganda” purposes.[18]
