Well that’s conjecture, but nonetheless the facts are they wouldn’t be where they are now without taxpayer money. And that is wrong. I don’t care how Innovative or cool or anything else the company is they don’t get my money.
The problem with that is people who spend a lot of money on cars want luxury, performance or both. Expensive Tesla's offer neither luxury nor performance. The 3 second 0-60 times on airport runways was a ruse - you only get to do that a few times before the car starts failing and overheating. You can't take them to the track- too heavy and they degrade on a road race after a few minutes.
Then there's poor QC and styling issues.
