I got a call recently from some alleged Firemen’s organization asking for a donation. I replied that I don’t know who you are. Can you send me a letter so I can look your organization up. He said no because they have had very little success with mailers. So I said no thank you. Firemen are wonderful, but I have no way of knowing if it’s legitimate.
Never never never! My spouse is a fire fighter. They do not cold call
Ask them if you donate how much money actually goes to the organization they claim to represent. They are required to tell you.
If I have time I wait through their entire sales pitch before I ask.
Sometimes they tell me the percentage and explain how expensive the fund raising is. The last time the guy just hung up on me.
