New York’s progressives will send us back to 70’s financial ruin at this rate
NY Post ^ | 2 Mar 2019 | Michael Goodwin

In his 1980 classic, “The Cost of Good Intentions,” author Charles Morris chronicled how New York liberals spent the city into disaster. Free housing, college tuition, health care and welfare skyrocketed until a fiscal crisis ended the binge. As the city nearly went bankrupt, crime soared and families and businesses fled.

Liberals have been replaced by progressives but no matter what they call themselves, a new generation of New York pols are ignoring history as they tax and spend at astronomical levels.

This time, there isn’t any excuse about good intentions. Mayor de Blasio and Gov. Cuomo both want to be president, and they are recklessly turning New York into a leftist lab experiment to get national attention for themselves. Their party controls both the City Council and the state Legislature.

The result is a slow-motion disaster, with years of excessive tax and fee hikes making the city and many suburbs prohibitively expensive to govern and unaffordable for residents and employers.

Not to mention that $850 million that DeBlasio's wife cannot account for.

These are the politicians the heavy majority of New Yorkers want.

That’s their business, even though the damage done does extend beyond the city limits.

I visited Manhattan last fall (60 years since my first visit).
It’s crowded, fast paced, expensive, and dirty.
But the people were much nicer than the stereotypes.

Best wishes to those who choose to live there.

They’ve got Cortez, a communist on the financial services committee so that won’t work out well for any of us.

The left wants America run by California and New York. If, they could, the Electoral College would be gone yesterday.

That was going to be my post, and I hadn't even read your opening statement...

De Blasio and ‘co-mayor’ wife have wasted $1.8B of taxpayer money

They apparently have no idea where that money went, even if any normal person could take a wild, but accurate guess.

The recent tax bill drives a stake into the heart of the undead New York State and the City itself. NJ and Connecticut will also turn to dust within 5 years.

Amusing to watch the vile and stupid Governor Andrew Cuomo make frantic public appeals to Jeff Bezos and please oh please do come to Long Island City and invest heavily. What Cuomo and his ilk fail to realize that if it took $3.5 billion in tax abatements and regulatory relief to attract a huge company like Amazon, what do they think all those existing taxes and bizarre byzantine regulations are doing every day? Cuomo is too stupid to realize that ordinary entepenuers and investing capitalists do not even consider NYC despite its historical, cultural and geographic advantages as a place to invest and settle. Hence no jobs and the inherent poverty remains. All is ignored by the self righteous ranting politicians and their media enablers. Also its now obvious that investors must also placate an endless clown parade of politicians, “community organizers and other leeches before anything can get done. Seriously believe that once the foreign inflow of capital that has been seeking a safe harbor in premiere urban real estate ceases ( and it will), urban real estate values in these Democratic enclaves will decine in value.
