In 2019, Sig Sauer is having problems with German arms export law. Heckler & Koch had its own problems last year, in 2018.
In 2009, a U.S.A. manufacturer of firearms, licensed from Sig Sauer, landed a sweet deal. $306 million dollars to provide 97,890 SP2022 pistols to the Colombian national police. The contract was made through the U.S. Army Material Command. I hope there were significant accessories and training included because that comes to about $3,126 per pistol!
The American company may have had some problems meeting the deadline for the delivery of so many pistols. It appears they asked for some help, and got some, from their sister company in Germany. German anti-arms groups were contacted and alleged that Sig Sauer had violated German law by shipping pistols to the U.S. company to fulfill a legal U.S. contract with Colombia. From wri-irg.org:
Cohen is accused of conspiring with Sig Sauer's Germany-based sister company to violate the countries relatively strict export rules, that prohibited the sale of weapons to countries in conflict, including Colombia. Officials allege that 38,000 pistols were manufactured in Eckernförde in Germany and shipped to the factory in the USA, which then completed the transaction, and that false paperwork was submitted, including end-use certificates stating that the weapons would only be used in the USA. The prosecutors office allege that Sig Sauer in the USA lacked the production facilities for the order until 2011, and turned to the German branch for help. Sig Sauer released a statement to a firearms blog

They make no sense for small arms.
Around $500. stateside for Sig P2022.
Sounds like the DOD acquisition process at work. Not a dime is misspent either. It is all very carefully tracked and audited. A significant fraction of that is going to inside the beltway contractors who put together powerpoint presentations to show how the procurement rules are being followed to a "t" to ensure that everything is in compliance and not a dime is being misspent.
It's malicious compliance with laws that the Congress made to prevent waste fraud and abuse in defense contracting.
Been wanting an H&K P30L
Hard to find anywhere in the country.
Common statement from dealers is that they hope to have one or two in the next 6 months.
I’m very much an H&K fan, own a USP9, USP40, USP45 and love their reliability. My USP9 I purchased in 1992 and is undoubtedly the best weapon I own, hands down. I’m going to look around here at the local gun shops and see about the P30L. I haven’t looked at weapons in awhile, time to treat myself to something new. :-)
Oh boy... did you work at the dod?
Colorado by any chance?
Does John wick have anything to do with this demand?
I’ve decided to work another job if I have to, to sell things. To save.
To buy a p7. In any caliber, any form, any finish. I can’t be picky.
But after my exposure to hk nothing elder will do. Everything else is stop gap.
It's always been bad, but the inflationary explosion in national security bureaucracy happened post 9/11 with the creation of DHS and the Iraq invasion. It expanded the diameter of the bandits that circle the DC beltway another 5-10 miles.
And no I am not calling the contractors who actually make real useful military hardware bandits. It's all the consultants and support service contractors in the DC area - who are both incapable of producing anything useful and couldn't anyway since they are in the DC metropolitan area.
The price was not unreasonable. The per unit cost includes ammunition, training, spare parts, and several years of support.
There are several international treaties governing small arms control. They help keep arms away from bad people around the world. Help, but do not prevent.
“compliance” is a huge industry/scam. Not just in military spending.
I Just bought an SP 2022 today at Cabela’s I hope this doesn’t slow down my purchase.
Yeah, the P7 is something special. Well worth the effort to acquire one.
Reading between the lines a bit on the H&K part, it sounds like some of the Mexican cartels now have G36 rifles.
Thank you for the insider information. I thought there must be quite a bit of support to make the price reasonable.
Too bad about Sig with the runnup in the American plant capacity.
Do you know if they were running up against time limits?
Could they have structured things differently to meet the regulatory rules?
