How about , Nicholas Sandmann, we lied. You did nothing wrong. We at the WaPo did. We are sorry to you and your fellow Covington students. We are awarding you and your classmates on the trip full four year scholarships to any college or trade school of your choosing when you graduate. We again are sorry.
That isn’t an apology. That is a lame attempt to claim that they covered the story “fairly”.
it’s identified as an editor’s note...not a correction or apology.
And I had to read that article a couple of times to realize it’s just adding more stuff.
Was that a page A26 correction notice?
Where is the apology?
Where is the correction of the false narrative?
Theres no apology there.
THAT was an apology/correction??? I don’t think so!!! Continue the lawsuit!!!
Sorry Washington Post, you missed the deadline.
Note how the first paragraph repeats the smear. P1 shpuld be “we f’ed up. Sorry.” S1 “we reported a and he did not. ...
The adulterer Jeff Bezos is going to have an expensive 2019. Retraction is meaningless -- everyone involved in the promulgation of the DNC's talking points / lies should be fired and blackballed. Thanks billorites.
non-apology. they outright acknowledge the Nathen Phillips - Vietnam issue but no overt apology to Covington kids... fake apology!
This “clarification” could be exhibit 1 in the $250 million lawsuit. If you diagram the sentences carefully, it’s a clarification. If you simply scan it like most liberal readers do, it reads like a confirmation of all the Fake News the WaPo is famous for.
If anyone hasn’t read the lawsuit, you should - it’s a humdinger. By the way, it was filed Feb. 19, 2019.
L. Lin Wood is a legend in defamation/libel circles. He represented the Atlanta security guard Richard Jewell who got smeared in the Olympic bombing incident.
They are more worried about the recent signals from Justice Thomas that it’s time for SCOTUS to roll back some of their previous decisions on libel law.
And this is the perfect test case. They very much want to avoid arguing it in front of SCOTUS because their maliciousness is on full display and they will have a very hard time defending their behavior as standard journalism.
Don’t drop the lawsuit. Take it all the way to the tippy top.
Not much of an apology, but I guess theyre laying groundwork to settle the lawsuit for something under 250,000,000, I guess if they start groveling early. Maybe 200,000,000+ attorney costs.
I read that three times and it still doesn’t make sense.
Panicked lawyer committee trying to save Bezo’s ass?
This Wapo article reminds of an old expression: “If it looks like cat feces and smells like cat feces, it must be cat feces...”

Yes - I follow his Twitter feed. Richard Jewell has been a subject recently:

As Todd McMurtry @FitLwyr and I embark on our fight for justice for Nicholas Sandmann, I am mindful every day of what the FBI & media did to Richard Jewell. Watch this 22 minute documentary and never forget Richard. I will not. I miss him every day.

Their lawyers should have told them to shut up. Anything they say or do can and will be used against them.
