Back around late 1968 or 1969, a group of “professors” at some university demanded SCOPES be banned from rifles, as several killings(JFK, MLK, Medgar Evers, The Texas Tower) had taken place with scoped rifles.
This was soon after Bobby Kennedy had been murdered with a handgun.

They focus on the AR15 because of it’s symbolism. It’s the official symbol of Americans who aren’t going to be controlled.

So they need to get rid of the symbol. The actual gun doesn’t matter, and never did.
