On the bright side, when Susan Collins dies, the GOP won’t miss her vote, since she consistently votes with the Democrats. What is the matter with people from Maine???

She does count toward the majority and the election of majority leader. If the GOP loses 3 seats at a 50/50 tie the VP’s vote carries the day. Take 4 seats away, including Collins, and the Dems have a 51/49 majority.

Looking at the 2020 election the GOP has some seats in play. McSally could easily lose Arizona as she has before, Tillis could lose NC, and Perdue could lose to Evans in Georgia. Colorado is turning blue rapidly so Cory Gardiner could lose that seat which already leans Dem by 1.5 points. If 3 of those 4 lose and Collins also loses, and there are no pickups of Dem seats, it will be majority leader Schumer in January 2021.
