When I was growing up, 70 percent was the minimum passing grade.
The dumber they are the more likely to vote Democrat!
Fixed it.
Damn fools! Socialism wins again.
When I was in school it was the following,
74 and below = F
75 to 80 = D
81 to 87 = C
88 to 94 = B
95 and above = A
Keep dumbing down the population and soon the politicians, the rich, and the lawyers, will have just what they want; A NATION OF SERFS and PEONS.
So our lovely leaders are teaching kids that 39% effort is good enough? This is tragic on so many levels for our future generations and for this country.
South Africa recently lowered their passing grades to 30
Kinda kills the entire “rigor” movement, huh?
When I was in high school in North Carolina, it generally ranked around 49th in student achievement. They’ve improved a bit since then, but it looks like they’re determined to get back down to the bottom.
Why convert numerical grades to letters?
I’ve never understood the reasoning for that.
Not only that, but future exams will consist entirely of True/False questions.
In my neck of the woods, the minimum score is 50%. So if a student just puts his name on a test then goes to sleep, that student scores a 50%.
The teachers are uniformly outraged by this. But they can’t get around it. If a teacher enters a score of less than 50% into the system, the software automatically changes that score to 50%.
So who benefits? Not the teachers. They are outraged and demoralized by this. And the students don’t benefit. They are being taught that doing nothing can be rewarding.
But the administrators do benefit. Less students fail. More students (who know nothing) pass. So the administrators get bonuses.
My schools (’50s and ‘60s):
93-100 A
88-92 B
82-87 C
75-81 D
74 and below E (F)
Publik skoooooolllllz.
“Don’t like our standards? We’ll lower them for you.”
What sort of college or job will consider a HS degree from NC NC public schools to have any value whatsoever? Nice job, educrats! You’ll get your cut of funding from brainless attendees that should have flunked out. They can stay and be disruptive for the few who want to learn.
Idiocracy here we come

Maybe they are where you live, but from my vantage point, the teachers (and by extension their worthless, self-serving unions), routinely want to have administrators move the goal posts when their poor teaching skills, coupled with “don’t give a $hit” parents, and government “inclusiveness and diversity rules” conspire to produce idiot kids. We should be holding teachers accountable for really educating our children, but sadly, that’s not the case.
