Might as well use a MiG 21 as anything new. Most third world countries air wars are really just a variant of WWI in fast jets.
They don’t really operate in the coordinated and disciplined way a US or Israeli force would.
A classic example of this was the Iranian F-14s against Iraq. Those battles were swirling dogfights, all guns, all daytime, always.
So if you are stuck in 1965 tactics wise and tech wise, you might as well be in a MiG 21 as anything else.

I very much agree. The PAC JF-17 Thunder, an updated version of the Mig-21, ought to be the sensible choice for many third world air forces rather then wasting big bucks on a front line aircraft they cannot maintain properly nor fully utilize the plane’s capabilities.
