...the concept of “hate crimes” is an oxymoron. If you assault or murder someone it’s fair to assume it was out of improper animus. Adding a kicker for “hate” in which attacks on certain classes of people result in enhanced sentences strikes me as an improper “thought crime” punishment, inconsistent with constitutional law.

It’s the Season of the Hoax, and the great hoax is about to burst. Collusion. If it were a racehorse it would be hyped as Secretariat, and on Derby Day they’d have to roll it out of the gate like a park statue.

A proper DOJ would be appreciated. Some prosecutions might actually rid the nation of this pestilence.

Black’s contention that “Those responsible will pay for this, including at the polls;”

and

“America has survived the greatest constitutional crisis since the Civil War,”

make for rosy, comforting windup to his summary of the situation, but they have a pre-WWI motif.

Civility — it’s as dead as chivalry. We’re not resolving any of this at the polls. We had a poll on November 8, 2016. And as for surviving this crisis, it’s hardly over, this is just the end of the beginning.
