It didn’t get mentioned in national news, but the mayor of Atlanta and several city staff members....went off to Cape Town back in 2017. Same type of visit, at city expense.

I don’t have an issue if the individual wants to spend their own money, and it’s just a vacation. Once they say its for official business, or discussions....then it begs questions.

seems to me these PACs are taking the place of the lobbyists that we didn’t want our politicians taking favors or trips or money from. There was a rule that a govt employee had to report any gift over $6 - so even if the PAC paid for the trip, it is still a ‘gift’ to the trip recipient. And large gifts are bribes no matter which way one looks at it.

It is worth adding that Cape Town is one of the most popular high end tourist venues in the world. It features some of the best luxury hotels in the world, and many of the best restaurants in the world. It also features many luxury game reserves, oh and vineyards that rival the best of France.
