“Given a couple of minor incidences Germany caused in the first half of the 20th century, its military shouldn’t be too well equipped.”

This foolish country lurches from one extreme to another:

-fanatical militarism in WW1
-fanatical pacifism by the socialist leadership of Weimar
-fanatical militarism under Hitler
-fanatical pacifism under Merkel et al

The past extremes led to disaster in every case, and the current extremism will as well.

Moderation in all things....

I do like the G36. Shoots good.

Until you rapidly go through two magazines. Then it is done.

And why would they be? Its our money that supports the worlds socialism. They don’t have to be responsible for their own defense and we pay various types of foreign aid to everybody on top of that. Socialism “works” there because we paid for it. They can afford to stay in a form of stunted national adolescence. Stop the funding and let them grow up then see the change in what they will become. Too many dumbasses in the US still fighting WWII like it just the way it is.

Had a Bundeswehr artillery unit in barracks next to mine in 1977. Interestingly, one night we were out with some of the German soldiers at a Baskin-Robbins. I looked at the German guy next to me and noticed he was wearing a denim vest with lots of patches. First one I zeroed in on was an SS Totenkopf
patch. I blurted out “Das Totenkopf” and he gave me a look that seemed to say “mind your own business or die!” Deathshead symbol had been around long before WW2, but this was clearly the same as the one used by the SS. At least the Germans were smart enough to retain a version of the MG-42 as their general purpose machine gun.

Chilean girl soldier with the formidable Chilean wooden Panzerfaust.

Yes, I know they are all wearing musicians’ epaulettes.

A friend in high school’s Dad was assigned to the American embassy in Santiago. He collected `Ejercito de Chile’ banners depicting soldiers in German helmets crouched with two-way radios on their backs to emphasize the purely defensive mission of the Chilean military.

You should have seen their reaction to seeing us use chemlites.

Their chemlites looked like the wad of TP out of our MRE’s with two wires and a flashlight bulb attached contained in a small plastic bag. They would add water to activate it.

All Armies gotta have a band.

It seems odd to see Chilean soldiers wearing those old WW2 style helmets and carrying M16s.
Chile sounds like a quaint place to visit.

Best Mausers were made in Belgium.

I'm not saying they're better, but I definitely prefer Mausers that are marked "LOEWE BERLIN"...

;^)

Got an 1891 Argentine Mauser that says exactly that.

Sears-Roebuck dreambook used to sell them for $19.95 back in ‘63.

We didn’t have that fancy stuff and I believe MREs came later ... all our weapons (or at least what were rumored to be weapons 50 meters down the mountain locked up in a trailer with a rusty lock to secure it - no one had ever seen the key ... The Germans had nothing. 1st Russian rest stop was 10Km behind us ... which is why we sent 10 gal pails of ice cream and cases of Coke up the hoist line when the Russian Hind came to inspect.
