How American Jews can blindly support the Democrats is almost unfathomable.

Contrast them with Jews in Israel.

I used to think it was habit, originated in the perception that the Dems supported Israel and unions. Remember, Jews were universally looked down on in the 19th and early 20th century. And, everyone knows what happened to them in World War II.

But, now I think its something else, something more basic. Judaism has many rules, and much philosophy, but its short on rewards in the afterlife, which is barely discussed. So, many superficial Jews find the religion unsatisfying, and are seduced by ideas of utopian political organization. I use the word superficial in a way which isn’t specifically applicable to Jews... most people are superficial in most of what they do, including their religion and their politics. It’s not easy to ask “why” and reach your own conclusions, partial though they may be.

It is puzzling I know but I believe American Jews are conservative in their personal values. And because of the holocaust they vote ultra-liberal so “anything goes” without discrimination.
