In the 116th Congress, if you’re a Democrat, you’re either a socialist, a baby killer or an anti-Semite.
That, at least, is what Republicans want voters to think, as they seek to demonize Democrats well in advance of the 2020 elections by painting them as left-wing crazies who will destroy the American economy, murder newborn babies and turn a blind eye to bigotry against Jews.
The unusually aggressive assault, which Republican officials and strategists outlined in interviews last week, is meant to strangle the new Democratic majority in its infancy. It was set in motion this month by President Trump, who used his State of the Union address to rail against “new calls to adopt socialism in our country” and mischaracterize legislation backed by Democrats in New York and Virginia as allowing “a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments before birth.”
Then last week, Republicans amped it up, seizing on a Twitter post by a freshman representative, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, which even some Democrats condemned as anti-Semitic, and ridiculing the “Green New Deal,” an ambitious economic stimulus plan unveiled by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic socialist. Suddenly even Jewish Democrats were abetting anti-Semitism and moderate Democrats in Republican districts were Trotskyites and Stalinists. “Socialism is the greatest vulnerability by far that the House Democrats have,” Representative Tom Emmer of Minnesota, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said in an interview, adding that he had also instructed his team to spotlight “all the extreme wild ideas” that Democrats espouse, “on a daily basis, on an hourly basis if it’s available.”

So, why are all the Democrats sitting on their hands doing nothing or actually supporting these radicals? Where’s the push back? What are they afraid of?

Since it is true, how is that “demonization?”
Yeah, to the bunch of communists and baby-killers- it’s tough when they use your own words and actions against you.
So does the article manage to demonstrate in some twisted fashion that these claims by Republicans are not true? Baby- killer, maybe, because Democrat politicians have not yet been documented actually killing babies themselves. They just stridently advocate the practice.
“Demonize” means to inaccurately characterize.
How many Democrats are openly supportive of socialism? A whole bunch.
How many Democrats are openly supportive of abortion, even including the recent post-birth abortion? A whole bunch.
How many Democrats have made antisemitic pronouncements? A whole bunch.
So, by calling the devil an evil being, are you “demonizing” him?
Democrats openly advocate socialism, celebrate abortion with cheering and light shows, and even counsel infanticide in some cases.
It’s obviously unfair for Republicans to say they advocate socialism, abortion, and the option of infanticide.
If Republicans criticize what Democrats say, they are demonizing Democrats. Democrats might lose votes if people learn the political ideology of Democrat leadership. It is unfair for Republicans to spread such information.

the difference isn’t that Republicans and Democrats are describing Democrats differently. It’s that Democrats are arguing that those are good things.
Spot on.
When the chair and the presidential candidate of the Democrat Party can’t distinguish between the Democrat Party and socialism, and many of their elected representatives identify as socialists, and they keep their seats when Trump says the US will never be a socialist country during SOTU, Democrats shouldn’t be surprised when Republicans say that Democrats are socialists.

Another vote here for “all of above”. And it isn’t even a secret, they revel in it, they were literally dancing when the New York abortion law passed. I would add thieves, bullies, and worshipers of dishonest law, dishonest narrative, dishonest economics, dishonest racial relationships, dishonest sexual relationships, dishonest class privilege, and unthinking tribalism. All of above on those as well.
A demon by any other name is still a demon.
Sometimes, accusations are accurate.
And sometimes accusations, as when leveled by leftists, point squarely at the misdeeds of the accuser.
So, what’s your point?
The criticism would not work so effectively if it weren’t true. Democrat politicians are socialists and baby killers. Many of their voters are too, but some are merely deluded and those are the target audience for this criticism.
