Lol... Yeah it’s a stretch isn’t it? By “everyone” they mean everyone who matters, Those of us out in the sticks don’t matter. I don’t know about you... But I am getting pretty tired of being treated as an ignorant lower class because we choose not to live right on top of each other.

You are correct.

I am so far out in a forest, away from a big city (Ocala is a small city at best), AT&T doesn't even deign to bestow upon us heathens the blessings of their slow, crappy 6 Mb DSL.

We are left to fend for ourselves with using our Verizon phone's hot spot (Verizon is the only service that works out this far)...

I live in suburban Detroit. On the upside I have a choice of three cable providers, nearby shopping, police and fire response time 2nd to none, etc. On the downside there is more traffic. I don’t see why I should pay more for my internet to subsidize someone out in the sticks.

I get the advantages of living out in the sticks, the wildlife, the quiet etc. Should those in the sticks be required to pay an additional tax, to provide more noise abatements in the suburbs?

I think not, if you want the advantages of civilization, live in a civilized place. If you want the advantages of a rural area, feel free to do so.

I feel no obligation to pay more for internet, to subsidize rural areas.

Don’t be silly.

It’s simple economics.

The equipment isn’t free, and the service providers pay a lot for the equipment, and especially the knowledge of their employees to keep it running, troubleshooting and fixing problems when it doesn’t, and having the skills necessary to help the business make a profit.

In places where a lot of people live, you can sell to them and pay for all of the equipment and talent with a little still left over for a profit. IF you (business owner) work your ass off.

Now, try to make as much money were hardly anyone lives?

It cannot be done unless the few customers pay a fortune, or the government pays for it, meaning our tax dollars, which I hate having to give to others when I barely get by.

I live in VERY rural Alabama. I also understand liberty and economics.
