If it does turn out to be a hoax, then he’s looking at obstruction of justice by destroying evidence (deleted phone records), lying to investigators and maybe conspiracy if he colluded with anyone.
I don’t think would skate in that case.

Here’s what he claims: in the middle of the night, in Chicago, in the middle of the winter, there were two white men out wandering around in ski masks and MAGA hats, carrying bleach and rope.
They then bumped into a black guy who no white person has ever
heard of, who is apparently on a show that no white person ever watches, and nevertheless recognize him and they then take the time in -18 weather to accost him, pour bleach on him, fashion a noose and put it around his neck, and run away - in 60 seconds after announcing that Chicago is MAGA country.
And you are still thinking this might have happened?
