Illinois legislators moved quickly Thursday to deliver one of new Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s top campaign promises, a gradual hike in the statewide minimum wage from $8.25 to $15 an hour — more than double the pay floor that most of its Midwestern neighbors require.
The state House voted 69-41 to send the Senate-approved plan to Pritzker, who watched the roll call from the House floor. He’d urged lawmakers to send him the legislation before next Wednesday, when he announces his first budget plan.
Republicans lashed out at Democrats for refusing to compromise and pushing too fast, particularly because the first wage increase wouldn’t occur until January. […]

I don’t own a business, but you can bet your ass I wouldn’t be paying someone $15 per hour to screw around on their cellphone all day.
Leaving the grocery store last night, I had to ask some moron completely blocking the entry way, looking at his phone, to move. I’m beginning to think smart phones are going to be the end of humanity.
Sure, we all know about robots and kiosks and other forms of automation.
But that requires capital expenditures which the small businessman may not want or be able to spend.
In those cases seems to me the path of least resistance is to boot the high priced white American and bring in the illegal. Just a thought.
It is all about power. Raw, naked power.

I’m rarely on toll roads (certainly not enough to get an EZ Pass transponder), and you’d be surprised how many lines move so slowly because the POS in the booth is playing with a cellphone.
EZ Pass was designed to remove these undisciplined eaters from normal working peoples’ everyday lives.
I like the “cellphone zombie crossing” signs where instead of showing black silhouettes of people crossing a street on a yellow background, the silhouette is of a person with neck bent down looking at a phone in his/her hand...
