Lashing out at him publicly, cheaply and virtue-signally just because you can is a sign of being steeped in negativity and of being not a very rational person.
Negative and irrational people generally soon have something bad happen to them.
So the curse I think appears true, is not an illusion ... but the lashing out and the negative life events surrounding the lashing are both just symptoms that one's heart and head are experiencing a period, perhaps terminal, of rot.
