Senate poised to confirm Trump’s attorney general pick
The Hill ^ | February 12, 2019 | Jordain Carney

The Senate advanced President Trump ’s attorney general nominee on Tuesday, paving the way for his confirmation later this week.

Senators voted 55-44 to end debate on William Barr’s nomination, more than the simple majority needed for him to overcome the filibuster and ultimately be confirmed.

The Senate is expected to take a final vote on Barr’s nomination as late as Thursday, with Trump’s pick on a glide path to confirmation. A vote could take place on Wednesday if senators agree to yield back time.

Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.) and Doug Jones (Ala.) voted with most Republicans to advance Barr’s nomination.

“He is well-qualified, and I am confident that he will faithfully execute the duties of the chief law enforcement officer of the United States of America," Manchin wrote in a tweet earlier Tuesday announcing his support for Barr.

With those three voting for Barr, Democrats would have had to flip seven Republican senators to sink his nomination.

But Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was the only GOP senator to say that he would oppose Barr , citing concerns over his views on privacy.

Barr's nomination ran into controversy over an unsolicited memo he sent to the White House regarding special counsel Robert Mueller . Barr, in the memo, described Mueller’s probe as based on a “fatally misconceived” theory and would do “lasting damage” to the presidency.

Barr told senators during his confirmation hearing last month that he would let Mueller finish his investigation, that Trump would not be allowed to “correct” his final report and that he would make Mueller’s findings public in accordance with the law.

I don’t understand Trump’s pick here, I can only assume he had no other viable option. I have never had less faith in my government then I do now. And that is saying something after the obumber years. Trump is the only one I trust to do what is in the best interest of America and Americans.

Perhaps, but he is the only honest one in the bunch. I can’t say I agree with him on alot of issues, particularly foreign policy, but he votes the way he believes and explains why he votes the way he does. He can’t be bought on most things. So the voters of Kentucky will have to decide if he is worth keeping.

Well, shut my mouth! Maybe Sinema has had an epiphany! We will watch to see how she votes for the rest of her tenure.

Yeah, you're right. But he's our ass.

He is a devout libertarian and, as such, plays a vital role that I feel obliged to support.

Barr will be a total bust as AG. He is a swamp creature not much better than that POS Sessions. Of course the forum’s Sessions shills will be thrilled with a do nothing Barr.

POTUS is keeping an eye on 2020. He wants to keep under wraps how little support he has from his own party and how little control he has of the executive branch. The Deep State is rampaging out of control and POTUS can only fight so many battles without allies on his flanks.

Good. He will be fine. Trump’s been without an AG since, well, forever. He knows what he’s doing now.

“Trust Sessions!” will go down in history as the dumbest hoax in modern history. Chanted by useful idiot dupes.

Time for him to cross the Rubicon. 2020 will be the same BS. Dhimmicrats stealing votes. Unless it’s gonna be a real honest election, fix the problem first start in states that used illegals and dead people to win congress and senate elections. (California and Arizona come to mind). Florida stopped the BS (barely) thank God for that.
Instead of sending swat teams to arrest Roger Stone use them to arrest illegals and those who take them in busses to vote. Use them to arrest those that would send swat teams to arrest Roger Stone. Time to take out the trash.

You can’t have honest elections if one party blatantly cheats every single time.

Kirsten Cinema going rogue again! She was the only D woman NOT wearing white at the SOTU and applauded heartily and inappropriately (according to the Dems).

Can you imagine if she votes better then Flake.....won’t take much. And so far, she has kept her mouth shut something Flake never did. She also was the lone Democratic Senator to stand when Trump said something at the SOTU. No I don’t want her in the Senate, but so far I see no difference between her and Flake. Of course, in 2024, we need to get a Republican in that seat.

Democrat senators from red states are permitted by dem leadership to vote with republicans when their vote is irrelevant in order to increase their chances for re-election. Look at the 3 that voted for Barr: dems from Alabama, Arizona and West Virginia.

Well cut off my legs and call me shorty!!! Kirsten is voting for Barr, interesting.

I’m sure she had to give Schmucky a BJ so he’d give her permission to vote with the GOP.

Barr’s a shoe-in, this is a superficial event. For things that really matter, Kirsten will most surely vote straight Rat.

Thought maybe Whittaker would take RR’s place. But your choice is good too.
