The guys at the gun shop sold him the AR and then turned him in to some friendly local media, and when someone stuck a mike in his face and asked him about it, he sputtered a minute and said, "I bought it for the local cops, in fact I'm just headed to my house right now to pick up the AR and go turn it over to them."
Kinda like the defense lawyer on a certain Cheech and Chong album...
I hope someone has archived that footage. Kelly should be asked about it & the footage shown as a response to whenever he opens his mouth!
