Column: It's time to think big on climate change
The Chicago Tribune ^ | February 9, 2019 | by Eugene Robinson (D)

Let's consider some real news, for a change: Last year was officially proclaimed the fourth-warmest on record; scientists predict that melting ice in Antarctica and Greenland could not only raise sea levels but further destabilize weather patterns; and progressive members of Congress are proposing a "Green New Deal," the first policy framework ambitious enough to meet the challenge of global warming.

Climate change is the biggest, most important story of our time. Our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will judge us by how well we meet the challenge, and so far we are failing. Miserably.

It's not about whether global warming is taking place or what's causing it — those questions are settled. The open question is whether the effects of human-induced climate change will be really bad, catastrophically bad or threat-to-civilization bad.

Enter the resolution, introduced Thursday by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey calling on Congress to create a Green New Deal.

he point of the resolution is not to propose specific, detailed policy prescriptions. What it does accomplish, though, is lay out the enormous scale of the climate change problem - and, as a commensurate response, call for "a new national, social, industrial and economic mobilization on a scale not seen since World War II and the New Deal."

uch a crusade, as envisioned, would create jobs and economic development while at the same time safeguarding the biosphere. Yes, proposals such as "upgrading all existing buildings in the United States" and "spurring massive growth in clean manufacturing" and "overhauling transportation systems" sound like pie in the sky. But that's the scale of the crisis.

Sooner or later, we're going to have to go big on climate change. So let's start thinking big.

Imagine if we were in the middle of the Dust Bowl?

from Wikipedia:

The Dust Bowl was a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the American and Canadian prairies during the 1930s; severe drought and a failure to apply dryland farming methods to prevent the aeolian processes (wind erosion) caused the phenomenon.[1][2] The drought came in three waves, 1934, 1936, and 1939–1940, but some regions of the high plains experienced drought conditions for as many as eight years.[3] With insufficient understanding of the ecology of the plains, farmers had conducted extensive deep plowing of the virgin topsoil of the Great Plains during the previous decade; this had displaced the native, deep-rooted grasses that normally trapped soil and moisture even during periods of drought and high winds

I’ve been reading articles about the Northern magnetic pole moving as much as 30 miles a year. Any truth to this and what would it have to do with climate change? Not saying there’s anything to it, just askin’.

Mail everyone one tree seed. Assuming half sprout that will be 170 million new trees which are carbon scrubbers. Problem solved. Tell companies their logos can go on envelopes if they pay for it.

"And still no mention on what the solution is"

Here's the solution

Florida Power & Light aims to install more solar panels than any regulated utility

They say about 30 million solar panels in the next 10 years, which is about 10 Gigawatts of electricity

That will reduce their CO2 emissions by 67% and about 40% of the power they produce will be renewable

https://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/earth/geophysics/question782.htm

...The Earth’s magnetic poles move. The magnetic North Pole moves in loops of up to 50 miles (80 km) per day.

But its actual location, an average of all these loops, is also moving at around 25 miles a year.

In the last 150 years, the pole has wandered a total of about 685 miles (1102 kilometers). The magnetic South Pole moves in a similar fashion...

currently rate is 30 times too low for that to happen

Yep, last time I read anything about this, the rise was 2mm/year. Which begs two questions:

How can scientists measure an oceanic rise of 2 mm? (they can't...)

200mm equals about 8 inches a century. Would anyone notice? (nope)

Grift, indeed. “Scientists” can’t even agree if eggs are good for you or bad for you, but they are rock solid on the climate habits of a 6 billion year old planet. Yes, this is all a scam.

At what cost to the environment to produce and install the damn things!

For instance, how many batteries are they going to need to provide power when there is no sun?

Glo-Bull warming is a hoax and a massive FRaud!

As is green energy!

A POX on both their houses!

I agree 100% , it’s time to think big on climate change. It’s way past time to identify it as the biggest scam in world history.

The snowflakes are going to be really upset when you tell them that they need to take a rowboat to go visit aunt Mildred in Hawaii next Christmas.
