De Becker's "The Gift of Fear" years ago and what de Becker is doing with Bezos is turning "The Enquirer's threat worth its weight in gold to a threat wortb its weight in tin. It seems to me to be an effective way to deal with a blackmailer.
Going after the Enquirer rarely is a good strategy. They have a nearly endless supply of information, and a long history of outing the bad behavior of powerful individuals.
