The first mistake was when NoLibZone decided to post this, but failed to read the entire article and click the link regarding “indentured servants”. Had he/she read that link then the prudent thing would have been to do more Google searches, or not post the article and declare it false in the first place. While slavery started more than 100 years before the Declaration of Independence, there had been 42 years in Virginia when Africans were indentured servants, NOT slaves, which was established by law in 1661.
If you want to believe that Africans in the 16th Century signed themselves into indentured servitude of their own free will, knowing and understanding what the document said, the way the Irish and the Scotts who signed such agreements did, then you go right on believing that.
