True. I have a couple rolls of rope/cord in my garage that have been there for years, and which were partially used for various gardening purposes. But I'm not sure if an urban apartment dweller would have much use for rope.

If he did have rope, he'd have ditched it by now, but its absence would be significant if they could prove he had recently purchased the kind of rope that was used in the alleged attack.

Absolutely, if video would show that he recently bought some of the exact same type of rope, his story disintegrates even more than it already has. And possibly opens him to criminal false reporting charges.
