Pelosi Outsmarted Herself on the SOTU
American Spectator ^ | February 7, 2019 | David Catron

When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi withdrew her original State of the Union invitation, preventing President Trump from delivering the address as scheduled on January 29, she was probably surprised when he responded with such calm forbearance: "This is her prerogative. I will do the address when the shutdown is over." By the time Trump finished the rescheduled speech Tuesday evening, she no doubt understood that her petty political ploy had been a blunder. Trump, being no mean showman, had long since realized that the highly publicized delay would increase public interest in the speech - and that is precisely what happened.

By the time he entered the House chamber, it was already obvious that the national audience would very likely exceed last year's larger-than-usual viewership for such speeches. This is not typical for the SOTU address. The normal pattern is a reasonably large audience for a president's first address, followed by a gradual decline in public interest each year thereafter. ... According to a report in the Hill, broadcast TV numbers from Nielsen show the audience share was 10 percent over last year’s speech.

Moreover, CBS and CNN conducted polls of public reaction to Trump’s words and the vast majority of viewers liked what they heard. The CBS/YouGov poll found that 76 percent of the public approved of the address, including 97 percent of Republicans and a whopping 82 percent of Independents. And a majority of viewers agreed that the President accomplished one of his primary goals for the address - improving national unity.

And, in more than one case, their answers debunked Democrat talking points. A particularly glaring example of this was the public's response to his points on illegal immigration.

Democrats are stupid. Trump has had DECADES of experience in the very brutal public eye of NYC, plus The Apprentice.

He crushed 16 other GOP primary competitors and pounded Hillary for all to see in the debates.

He outworked Hillary in the general campaign, winning the election, drawing HUUUUUUGE crowds in the process.

How do these people think they can beat this guy?

Ain’t gonna happen - EVER.

Go Trump - MAGA
Go Melania aka Lady MAGA

Plenty of shrinking violets on here lamenting Trump caving on the shutdown. My take, he played them like a fiddle, a Charlie Daniels fiddle, as in “The devil went down to Georgia”. What he did is going to have a lasting impact and effect the election.

I don't know what she was doing; Chewing her cud, or trying to get that irritating piece of corn out that is stuck between your teeth, or maybe just bad dentures? Between that and the shuffling of papers or the not so subtle signals to her minions, she was purposefully trying to be a distraction. The word 'vile' is not strong enough to describe this woman.

The delay in giving the speech allowed unseen events to unfold, like the rush to infanticide demonstrated by the dems. That part of the President’s speech was very memorable.

We call her the demon-possessed Botoxian around these parts. Kinda looks & acts like one of the zombies off The Walking Dead series. She’s outright evil and has her own special place reserved in Hell.

She and her liberal cohorts are captive to their own emotions. They are radicals driven by their ideological hatred and resentment, which of course prevents rational thought. Trump knows this and leverages their stupidity to great effect. He plays with them like toys.

Between that and the shuffling of papers

***************

This took on comical proportions. She looked like a child playing with an oversized set of playing cards.

Yeah, a bunch of them including Laura Ingraham, (who admitted Trump had better instincts) and Rush among many others here and there, said he needed to do the SOTU elsewhere.

Trump is a traditionalist. He is a conservative of American institutions and values.

He sees that the presidency has been eroded since Reagan. There is no respect for the office, there is no pomp and circumstance etc.

He’s restoring the splendor and class little by little.

MY PREDICTION: HE’S GOING TO WIN THEM ALL OVER EVENTUALLY, ESP THE AOCs OUT THERE.

And we had a lot of concern trolls fretting resident Trump had caved and let her walk over him (just like the Dems were crowing she had showed him what real power was)...when will they stop underestimating him?

Trump should send her one of those blank books with bound pages. It should keep her occupied for hours.

I contacted the White House and my congressman and told them that POTUS needed to do it in the Capitol building.

Although I didn’t say this in the correspondence I felt it was the perfect opportunity for President Trump our wonderful president to rub Pelosi’s nose in her own dirt.

AOC types (maybe not her) seem a lot more caring of the country than the old guard. I don’t agree with her positions but I also don’t feel like her goal is to beat Trump so much as it is to make the country better. She may prove stubborn and not listen to reason but I suspect many in the country are like her and when presented with better options would take it. They are not getting better options because they never hear the other side. The media prevents that as much as possible. Trump has to find a way to truly communicate with the actual loyal opposition and not just the crazies who hold power.
