President Trump is reversing his campaign commitment to reduce overall legal immigration levels to the United States in order to raise the wages of Americas working and middle class, as he is now demanding more immigration.
During his State of the Union (SOTU) address this week, Trump went off-script while discussing national immigration policy, saying he wanted to admit the largest numbers ever of legal immigrants to the country.
Legal immigrants enrich our nation and strengthen our society in countless ways, Trump said. I want people to come into our country, in the largest numbers ever, but they have to come in legally.
Currently, the U.S. imports more than a million legal immigrants annually, with the vast majority deriving from chain migration, whereby newly naturalized citizens can bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the country. In 2017, the foreign-born population reached a record high of 44.5 million.
The U.S. is on track to import about 15 million new foreign-born voters in the next two decades should current legal immigration levels continue. Those 15 million new foreign-born voters include about eight million who will arrive in the country through chain migration. This booming legal immigrant population has not only rapidly shifted the demographics of the nation, but research indicates it will hand over all electoral dominance to Democrats in a matter of decades.
Mass legal immigration has come at the expense of Americas working and middle class, which has suffered from poor job growth, stagnant wages, and increased public costs to offset the importation of millions of low-skilled foreign nationals.
Trumps off-script comment, though, seems to be his preferred immigration stance, as he is now telling reporters he is doubling down on his mass legal immigration statement, claiming there will be a labor shortage if we dont admit more

Meh. I think he’s just saying this to emphasize the claim that he not against immigration, just illegal immigration.Hyperbole is strong with Trump, so take Ill take this with a grain of salt.
I believe that Trump, like a lot of Freeres, believes this. This will be his undoing. His Achilles heel.
If STEM/IT workers like me have to give up my career and livelihood to a foreign national just to get a $5B rusty POS "barriers" then it isn't worth it.
Or maybe just let supply and demand increase wages? It seems business people really don’t believe in free markets only manipulated controlled labor markets and borders are meaningless when it comes right to it.
I guess you haven't been paying attentive....
One termer....
That’s what you get from days of listening meetings with billionaire pals and big donors, donor networks, big biz and big ag advocacy groups, and donor network-funding think tank grandees.
Trump has caved to the Cheap labor express. I did not vote for this .
One termer....

Yes so lets all vote for Romney, he’s much better. /s
So much stupidity and ignorance of supply and demand. Where do I start?
Relax. Do you know how many tech workers we need? More than we have. If folks aren’t willing to work their butts off, go where the work is, and some clearly aren’t, then we need to import some.
I like a well-run brain drain.
Trump famously changes his mind according to whom he heard from last — and he did his usual listening to big donors and big DC players re: an expanded approach to immigration (the return of “comprehensive immigration reform”).
Pretending he is lying strategically is a pernicious form of denial.
I agree with you on this one!
Read... Get Tough America..
Trump wants people who will expand the economy...
Tucker Carlson had a women on last night...tried for ten years to get in..was educated here...
SEVENTY PERCENT are chain migration...so we get the ones who are a drag on the economy.. and vote democratic..
If this news gets more snowflakes to stop whining, relocate if need be, and frickin’ work their tails off, even better. :-)
“Where do I start?”
Please pick a starting point and start.
He is evolving into Bush II .
Why vote for a man who let foreigners steal their job and their kids jobs just for Political contributions .
That is Jeb Bush behavior .
In fact , Jeb just complimented him on selling out to the cheap labor K street and the Swamp .
I was at a rally in FL in which he promised Disney employee to get her job back that Was given to a cheap foreigner and she had to train too !
So much for that campaign promise .
I agree. This is more speaking to Congress, “See, we need to have ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’ Where’s my wall?”
More of the right kind, nuff said.
Trump is recognizing that there are highly talented people who would be of great benefit to the US who should be able to come here legally and without unreasonable delays.
That is not the same as opening the borders to whatever we get by hook or crook.
Surely you must be able to see the value of another Einstein vs an MS-13.
Sorry, I do not take on the Never Trumper belief here that President Trump is stupid, I don’t subscribe to that view
But I do believe he is conquering the middle while Nancy is busy conquering the fringe left loons.
Strategic
What a load of steaming crap...Breitbart is jumping the shark and going downhill.....catering to our own clueless concern trolls....who always yowl in fretful agony only to be proven wrong time after time.
