The whole idea sounds scary. One glitch can kill hundreds.
Compared to our multitude of human glitches they are likely to prove safer.
They won’t get sleepy, they won’t feel ill, they won’t get drunk, their eyesight won’t diminish, they won’t text while driving, get distracted by their friends, speed for the hell of it.
The computing power to make it work is already cheap and available. Pack enough of a variety of sensors, radar, cameras into the vehicle and it should exceed our capabilities. Building software that can always recognize people and animals is probably where development is at right now.
