White privilege. I’m so sick of that term. I keep hearing it over and over and over again. Among friends. Among my church folks. So tired of it. A well off black man from a well off family has far more privilege than a poor white person. People do benefit from some advantages others don’t have, but race is hardly the biggest advantage. Wealthy background, being healthy, being good looking, being part of a protected class.. ect ect ect. all confer great advantages. What may seem like an advantage in some cases may in fact be a disadvantage in other cases.
The biggest advantage is having parents who were married before you were conceived and who stayed married at least through your late teens. Add in a father who was consistently employed - at any job, and the chances of growing up in poverty drops to single digits for white and black folk alike.
