FRANKFORT, Ky. — (AP) -- A former Kentucky attorney general wants his old job back.

Democrat Greg Stumbo filed to run for attorney general in 2019. A veteran of the Kentucky House of Representatives, Stumbo was attorney general from 2004 to 2008. He was Kentucky's House speaker until 2016, when he lost his re-election bid.

Stumbo is the first Democrat to file for the office. The current attorney general, Andy Beshear, is also a Democrat. But instead of seeking re-election, Beshear is running for governor.

Don't look now, but he's back. Stumbo is part of the old Lundergan establishment. Allison Lundergan Grimes is leaving office, effectively damaged goods for the time being given the scandals in her current office and the criminal charges brought against her family members and associates (excellent timing to keep her out of the governor's race to clear the way for Andy Beshear) - so now Stumbo recapturing the AG office is the last stand or they will end up finally being wiped out of power.

I hate to hear his name all the way up to the election. This guy has been part of Ky’s problem since he was first elected to public office. He’s one of the Good Ol Boy’s who helped put Ky last in nearly every category states are ranked by. He did manage to enrich himself and his buddy’s.
