All they needed to do was look at Seattle fast food prices. When similar legislation was passed in 2014, prices immediately started going up and not just by a little. It was like all the franchise owners winked at each other and decided to forget the concept of competition and raise their prices to whatever they felt like. Here is an article from 2016:

It is much worse these days. If you are going to Seattle tank up on fast food before you cross the city limits and you will save at least 50%. I asked a McDonalds employee in Seattle where the dollar menu was, and was literally laughed out of the store. If you thought airport terminal fast food prices were bad, just visit Seattle.
Exactly so. Egg McMuffin meal $1 higher inside Seattle city limits, and newly remodeled stores offer 3-4 order kiosks.
Geez, Subway was already way overpriced. We don't have a McD's but the Sonic jr. burger has almost doubled from $1 to $1.89. I've heard the price of a single piece of Long John Silver's fish has gone up to nearly $3 so people aren't going there anymore. Thankfully, I can walk out the back door, drop a hook and fry up my own fish for pennies.
