House Democrats were joined by Lilly Ledbetter, the namesake of the fair pay act signed by President Obama in 2009, to introduce supplemental legislation they say gives women "new tools" to challenge the gender pay gap.
The Paycheck Fairness Act, which is sponsored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., addresses modern-day salary imbalances between men and women, which can be exacerbated when women are unaware of their male coworkers' salaries. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, said while introducing the bill that women could use a Google sheet to share salaries. Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive and the most famous new member of Congress, added that equal pay was a "generational issue."
Ocasio-Cortez tweeted after the news conference announcing the bill that "if "the wage gap is a myth" as some allege, then workplaces should have no problem with workers disclosing our salaries with one another."
The legislation would also prohibit employers from considering salary history as the basis for salaries, encourage pay equity, and help employers develop fair pay practices.
The Paycheck Fairness Act will also require the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to collect compensation data from employers in order to increase pay transparency and reveal pay discrimination.

Solution - dont hire women.
Liberty?
What’s that?
Are you fricking kidding me?? They’re going to try and legislate that we MUST tell our co-workers how much money we make? What a recipe for disaster. These people have NEVER worked a day in a real job where people get compensated for actual effort.
>Solution - dont hire women.
‘Better’ solution: Get rid of salary & go to hourly
Oh, yeah. It says right there in the constitution that all persons must be paid the same amount for same or similar job and that it is the federal government’s job to enforce it. /s
She’s young, and stupid, so she maybe doesn’t know that law was passed in 1963 that already does all that. It was signed by a democrat by the name of JFK.
Plus, if I could somehow hire women to do the same job and do it for a lot less than men then only women would be hired.

It is ridiculous.
What this says is they don’t believe there are any other logical and valid reasons why one persons pay can behigher or lower than anothers.
Experience. Training. Number of years at the company. No large time off gaps. How much overtime some works/is asked to work/accepts or declines. How they negotiate their initial starting salary/rate.
Every employer should pay the least they can to obtain the class of labor they require.
Every employee should obtain the highest salary they are able to.
Many of us Gen-Xers found ourselves, at some point in our early careers, being compensated at rates lower than new hires, especially in technical careers. It was the effect of a tech boom and the economy associated with it. Workers were in demand. The supply of talent that was needed from college graduates was low.
Employment is as much a part of supply and demand as anything else in a traditionally capitalistic economy. The balance ebbs and flows. Liberals trying to legislate one aspect of this is, as usual, short sighted, and destructive.
They are advocating for the publishing of salaries so employees can identify what is fair and unfair. It is akin to government setting pay scales. This is how communists do it. Why not?
“What a recipe for disaster.”
How so?
If I was running a business I would post it in the lunch room. It would be one of my principle management tools.
If x asks why they are making less than y, I would tell them.
Is this the comparable worth BS? Where a Government hack decides that a female office manager should be paid as much as a male master welder working 50 stores up.
So all merit is gone from pay raises. Do well and get paid the same as a privileged member of a government-certified victim group who lobs around, comes in late, and does inferior work.
X has no business knowing what Y makes. And if you are so open with your employees, you wouldn't wait until X asks. You would at least on an annual basis, during annual reviews, explain the employee's strengths, weaknesses, areas to target for improvement and set goals for growth, both professionally and for compensation. X still isn't entitled to know what Y makes.
Flipping a coin to settle an argument is fair. Mathematically nothing else is fair. Life is not fair. Deal with it!
Then you get hit with discrimination lawsuits. I am an engineer, a field where there is a big imbalance between men and women. From college forward I have seen the women given higher salaries and more opportunities to advance just because there are fewer of them and companies want to fill positions with them every chance they get to avoid lawsuits and win bonus points with the SJW types.
All these liberals, conveniently choose to ignore studies, which show that women overall earn less than men, because of gaps in work history due to having children, taking care of family matters, etc.
And many of those gaps in employment are due to the woman’s free choice to take time off, or look for less demanding jobs, which will fit better with family responsibilities.
I’ve seen a few studies which when controlled for various such factors, show that the gender pay gap disappears. I’ve seen studies which trace the careers of childless women, who have never taken any time for family, who have comparable pay and job responsibility of men in the same types of jobs.
So I expect that next up, the liberals will bitch about why it is, that women take time off, or seek less demanding jobs, just because of having a family. This will be seen as some “civil rights” crusade, I’m sure.
And they will look to other areas to bitch about, such as, why is it that after 50 years of the women’s movement, that less than 10% of partners in law firms are women. I suspect that it is because of the hard work and extreme hours needed to become a partner in a law firm causes many women not to make the effort. And may also tie in family responsibilities being incompatible with the long hours needed to make partner.
We’ll see where this goes.
Hells Bells, next they’ll want to just put everybody’s W2 into a publicly searchable online database.
All these liberals, conveniently choose to ignore studies, which show that women overall earn less than men, because of gaps in work history due to having children, taking care of family matters, etc.

Exactly. There is a big difference between being paid less vs. earning less.
I had plenty of employees over the years who were paid the same but often earned very different amounts. Some wanted to put in ot, work through bad weather etc.
