In Maryland, if a family qualifies for one “benefit” they can almost automatically get about 8 other ones. Some, like free and reduced-price school lunches are very easy to get. I do not think that any of these “benefits” count as income for them. Thus the ridiculous poverty numbers when the people are living with smart phones, fancy shoes and huge TVs.
That's a subset of Fake News--where you're trying to trash a particular party or philosophy in the run-up to an election by releasing fictitious stories to suggest that things are so bad that the (more conservative) party in power needs to be voted out.

Actually this is about right just about everywhere. For people who try to actually WORK and pay their own way. Those who don’t work on dependency are doing much much better and don’t have to work at all.
My Kids are in this situation, They all have decent professional occupations. But by the time they pay out what it costs to keep a job and work they are making less than if they were on welfare.
The system is absolutely broken.
Texas has all kinds of economic and academic problems.
Get rid of all the illegals and these problems will vastly improve.

I know of a single mother who does not work, in my town in Texas, with 4 kids. She gets $800 in food stamps plus a rent free apartment.
