I moved from Fargo to a banana belt-the coast of Maine. It was a balmy 5 degrees above zero this morning.

When I still lived there a man, his son and two of his friends froze to death on 19th ave N. a half mile from the K-Mart on University drive. A little bit of snow, a whole lotta wind and severe cold and they got stranded. Found them a day later still in the car.

I remember that story. What a tragedy! Was there a blizzard going on as well?

I remember that too. It might have been in March 1986, I think. We had driven past that spot maybe 30 minutes earlier with a truckload of wood. It was very sudden. We didn't even unload the wood that day, just went in the house to get warm.

It was not long after that when a gate was installed at either end of that stretch of 19th Avenue North. Unlike most main roads, that stretch hadn't been built on an elevated berm when the new airport terminal was opened.
