KIM Jong-un has threatened to kill his own citizens if they switch on South Korean tv shows.
A source told Radio Free Asia’s Korean service that authorities have launched a crackdown on the illegal activity including a death sentence threat for those found breaking the law.
The insider said: “In a recent lecture, they told us they are aware that a growing number of people are able to manipulate the frequencies to watch South Korean TV programmes.
“They said that regardless of any individual’s status, those caught in violation could be executed by firing squad. They want to instill fear.”
The source added many North Koreans have been inspired to watch South Korean television shows because of the perceived thaw in relations between Pyongyang and the West.
Kim Jong-un is due to meet US President Donald Trump for a second time in February as the pair work to denuclearise the Korean peninsula.
Critics have labelled the summit nothing more than a photo-opportunity after Kim failed to follow through on commitments made when he met Mr Trump last year.
This, after high level, high profile visits last year of South Korean pop singers and other big stars for public "Peace on the Peninsula" concerts in Pyongyang--but nothing aired on regular NK TV. Just a show for invited privileged cadres of the Workers Party. Nobody outside the Party nor Pyongyang for that matter could or would see such a concert.

My friends who lived in East Germany prior to the wall coming down told me that they were threatened not to listen to Western radio stations.
One told me how they would hide in fear just to listen to the radio. The same person told me that the most painful thing was when the wall came down all the lies that they were a world power were unveiled. The governments ego identity was destroyed.

Kind of a old, cold-war kind of term. Agreed, the headline did not match the story in that regard. They also don’t want any kind of Japanese TV, Chinese TV, and US or European TV or music. Weird weird place.
IIRC years ago during apartheid, So. Africa didn’t allow any TVs at all.

Firing squad is actually relatively human by North Korean standards - they’ll pull out the anti-aircraft guns when they really want to make a point.
“Firing Squad” is a little extreme, but he sound like a good dad otherwise.
"Manipulate the frequencies"? In other words, change the channel. Sorry, this looks like yet another CIA hit piece to attempt to derail the unification effort.
