SEATTLE (AP) For a businessman who grew a small coffee roaster into an inescapable global chain, who ensured that even his part-time workers had benefits and who has given about $150,000 to Democratic campaigns, former Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz is generating tepid or even hostile responses within the party as he weighs a presidential bid in 2020.
Thats partly because as Schultz told 60 Minutes on Sunday hes considering running as an independent, a prospect many worry could draw support from the eventual Democratic nominee and hand President Donald Trump another four years in office. Among those urging him not to run as an independent are David Axelrod, the former adviser to President Barack Obama, and Tina Podlodowski, the Democratic Party chairwoman in Washington state, where Schultz has lived for decades.
For somebody who is professing to be a lifelong Democrat, I think to be running as in independent in this particular cycle is not a wise thing to do, Podlodowski said.
Schultz drew criticism Monday from President Donald Trump, who tweeted that Schultz doesnt have the guts to run for President!
Trump added that he watched the 60 Minutes interview and I agree with him that he is not the smartest person. Besides, America already has that!

Trump will do everything that he can to encourage him.
He has my support to run.
What is a “traditional Democrat voter”? The possible Democrat candidates all look like socialist extremists to me.
Mine too. He’s the Dems version of Ross Perot.
I would not get excited about this. I can almost Gaurentee if it looks like he will help Trump win he will withdraw and endorse whoever the Rat is.
He’s not the first billionaire to decide that being a billionaire is a slam dunk to becoming president. Most Trump voters, if not all, would agree that Trump’s financial status wasn’t the reason he was elected. He’ll be flamed by the democrat party and slink back to his nobodyhood before long, proving that he may be a billionaire but he doesn’t have what it takes to do a Trump.
The fact that this guy is even considering this again shows a fundamental misunderstanding regarding Trump.
Trump (and being a billionaire) is not the “message”.
The “message” coalesced around Trump. Trump just happened to be the carrier (or beneficiary) of the ‘message”.
The Rats and Others still don’t understand that, since they’re fundamentally “statists” and “Big Man”, “Cult of Personality” politics & government makes sense to them. Brown Shirts, Red Guards following a messianic leader is their world.
If Trump would drop “the message” Trump would fall!
He’s a white male, he cannot win Democrat nomination. Go for it ...
Blue Collar workers, Catholics, Union members (except government unions), white men, etc.
Many of these voters went for Trump and were essential for his victory. The rest of them will not vote for the Socialist looney who will nominated by the Democrats in 2020. Will they go for an Independent who claims to be a Centrist, but who is in reality as far Left as anyone that the Democrats put forward. Great news for Trump.
“What is a traditional Democrat voter
Welfare leeches, pubic school teachers, government union workers, mostly those that don’t work for a living, or those that wouldn’t be able to get a job without gov mandates.
Of course, this group of Democrats will continue to vote for whomever the Democrats nominate. Add to them illegal immigrants, drug cartels, communist, and militant feminists. Meet today’s Democrat Party.
If that weasel Axelrod if against it, I’m for it
He would be the dem’s Perot
A lot of dems would figure neither one of the people running from the 2 top parties are worth their vote so they would cast for the girl on the starbucks cup
That’s right, the people who wouldn’t ever have a job over dishwasher without the gov saying you had to hire them.
Nobody would hire a freak dressed up as a clown show if they could get out of it. So they hire a transvestite and stuff it in a back office where nobody will see them.
And there you have it. Not even Bernie can.
Perhaps Hiawatha will actually get the nod--but only if she wears her feathers.
Re Cult of Personality politics, I think you’re right on, and it’s ironic that this cult, in the form of AOC, has become a real nemesis, so much so that rumors are now being reported of a desire to primary her in 2020.
