MEXICO CITY (AP) — More than 25,000 Mexican workers at dozens of factories south of Brownsville, Texas, went on strike Friday after owners of the plants that assemble for export refused union demands for a 20 percent pay hike and an annual bonus. The Union of Maquiladora Industry Industrial Workers of Matamoros, the SJOIIM, said that by late Saturday nine companies had agreed to meet the salary and bonus demands. Union leader Juan Villafuerte thanked union members who had stood outside in the rain and cold, noting "we hope to soon conclude this labor ." 3,000 migrants in Tijuana and 12,000 on the hoof - might not be a good time to be striking? Has border employment priced itself out of jobs (asking $9.28/hr)?

“went on strike Friday after owners of the plants that assemble for export refused union demands for a 20 percent pay hike and an annual bonus.”

And this is why globalists LOVE third world production. The Mexicans were dirt poor and settled for a slave wage in the early days. They used to make 6 or 7 dollars a DAY. Now it’s per hour and they are organizing. So the globalists simply hop to China, Indonesia, Guatemala, Honduras, Pakistan, etc.
A race to the bottom. There are always more poverty stricken people who will accept lower for a while.

Well, it looks like the Mexicans want a raise. The commie-conspiring globalists should move their operations to the Congo then. Bye!

;-D

Government employee unions should be outlawed, BTW.

Interesting. The globalists could play one of them off against the other. Fine, but shouldn’t they stand up for the struggling democracies one at a time?

Robotics. The workforce will have to retrain to keep the robotics fed and lubed.

Robotics, automation, and complex assembly machines perform in a race to the bottom if the prerequisite planning and logistics is dismissed as trivial. And most companies these days here or abroad can’t plan and schedule worth a damn. Most production lines in my industry run at a flopping failure utilization rate of 22%.

“...stood in the cold...”. In Mexico? What’s cold in Mexico? 65 degrees?

@AOC: “The answer is easy, simply tax the rich Cartel leaders 70% of their earning and then all the workers can make a living wage”

Apparently Chinese labor has gone up in price very much because of automation. They need full blown engineers to keep the line running and they cannot find them.

I remember when the Southern United States was considered the third world low wage area. As long as they can find cheap labor to exploit and governments willing to pay for them to exploit them factories will keep globe hopping.

Agree 100%.

A 20% raise for anyone would be a treat. Wouldn't everyone love to get that. Unions always overstep like this.

Maybe they hope for 2% but ask for 20%.

My grandmothers water meter factory moved to the cheaper southern states only months after she retired she lucked out in the late 80’s.
I imagine that the company has since moved again to Mexico.
Hersey Water Meters formally of Dedham, MA.

I gotta check it out.
the old foundry site is now a massive apartment complex...i imagine that half is section 8.....like all of the giant apartment buildings they are constructing here in my home town of Norwood, MA.
gov says we are demanded to bring in the parasites...
time to move further west.

nice...

It always amazes me when folks outlay millions for capital improvements based on seeking some efficiency but never bother to verify they’re getting it until it’s too late. Often accompanied by penny-pinching the actual improvement whilst ignoring dollars flying out the window on pie-in-the-sky BS.

I worked at the massive AT&T Merrimack Valley Works in North Andover. One of my fellow techs spent 28 years at a shoe factory in Haverhill and they closed it, moving South. It left him with a pension of something like 30 dollars a month for his service. I know Merrimack Valley shut down but I don't know what they did with the land. I had already moved down to Georgia by then.

Also anyone who works for any government should be barred from voting in any election which includes the employer to employee relationship. IOW a county employee like sheriff or human services employee shall not vote in a county election. A federal employee in any federal position shall not vote in a federal election.
