China increasingly worried about unrest as tariffs bite and economy slows

Actual headline: POTUS Trump’s tariff strategy is working: China’s Communist Party increasingly worried about internal stability as economy slows

As the Trump administration signals publicly that there is a ways to go before it reaches an equitable trade arrangement with Beijing, there are growing signs that China’s Communist Party is concerned that the ongoing trade war and decline in the country’s GDP could spark widespread unrest.

On Thursday, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said the U.S. and China had “miles and miles” to go before reaching a deal, though a trade delegation from Beijing was headed to the United States in the coming days to continue talks.

“There is a very large group coming. There’s been a lot of anticipatory work done, but we’re miles and miles from getting a resolution and frankly, that shouldn’t be too surprising,” Ross said, according to Reuters.

“Trade is very complicated, there’s lots and lots of issues,” he said, adding that he thinks “there’s a fair chance we do get to a deal.”

First Venezuela, then Iran, then China.

Three regimes that the world would be better off having changed.

Trump should put on tariffs no matter what. It encourages companies to widen their industrial base outside of china. Right now China has tariffs on all the stuff from the US that they don’t need. And they have little tariffs on the stuff they need. We are foolish to think that cell phones coming from China are a fair trade for soybeans. Even if the dollars are the same, cell phones have lots of manufacturing jobs. Soy beans have a few farmers. If the Soy beans are sold to china as finished products then they are worth more to us. But China is only importing raw goods. So we should simply add up the amount of tariffs on our products and put that amount on everything coming from China. It won’t hurt us much. There will be a year or two where soy beans will need to find a new buyer. Or farmers will need to produce new crops like beef feed. But that is worth it, if China does not have the money to grow their army and buy resources from other countries.

If all the proposed US tariffs on China actually go into effect, they’ll be in a deep, stinkin’ pile of sh!t.

Even the minor tariffs now in place are biting deep.

“Three regimes that the world would be better off having changed.”
