The President is definitely the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Justice.

In theory, the President appoints subordinate executives who, at the very least, adhere to his basic philosophy.

Of course, in Trump’s case, no one has any idea why he appoints the people he does.

But, in theory, Trump could appoint no one, or he could nominate only people who could not be confirmed, in which case he could then personally make every decision to prosecute, or not prosecute.

I keep reading that Cohen claims he was threatened. I have yet to see the actual threats.

WHat Trump and his lawyer are saying are standard things you would say if someone is accusing you of things.

They claim it is “witness tampering” because he’s the President, with the implication that he therefore could actually take action; of course he can’t touch the Mueller investigation, so that claim is absurd.

And this may be a good reason to not allow these types of criminal investigations against a president, if he isn’t allowed to defend himself because of his position.
