City officials announced Wednesday they would dust off and enforce a decade-old ordinance designed to assure that lost or stolen guns are properly reported. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said at a morning news conference that the citys Failure to Report Lost or Stolen Firearm code has been underused by gun owners. The code dictates heavy fines and possible jail time for any gun owner who does not tell authorities when a firearm is lost or stolen. Krasner said many guns claimed to be lost or stolen never were. "They were sold illegally, and they end up in the hands of people who commit crimes, he said. Enforcing the old measure would help prevent such illegal trafficking in weapons, track the distribution of firearms through city streets and help keep guns from violent offenders and children, city officials said.

So how does forcing law-abiding gun owners to report a lost or stolen gun help fight straw purchases? And what straw purchaser would report a gun as stolen? What idjuts.
Stupid.
A perfect situation in which to practice “jury nullification”.
I thought the ATF law was that a stolen firearm had to be reported within 24hrs. I was wrong.

Prove I knew it was stolen
Have you ever dealt with BATFE or FBI?
The burden of proof in on YOU.
Same with the IRS.
Prove I even had possession recently. I have a lot of canoe accidents.
unconstitutional (First Amendment forced speech)
Just make sure that you lose the when you are outside the city limits.
From the article, “They were sold illegally, and they end up in the hands of people who commit crimes,
How do you sell something that you own “illegally”. I suppose the laws vary from state to state. I am getting older and the collection of firearms that we own will eventually have to be sold; I guess that I will have to research the “legal” way to sell my own property.
Well, just remember that actual criminals cannot legally be compelled to report.
I have direct experience with IRS, during a 70s audit.
I also have 2 friends/know a few acquaintances who’ve dealt with ATF, on homemade weapons, and 1 spent 2mos in jail, then released wo/ apology, all bogus criminal charges dropped. The other were harassed and weapons confiscated and never returned. No compensation, either for their homemade Dragunov sniper rifles.
The recent, in the news, 6mo old, doctored FBI FD-302 Field Interview Forms, against Trump associates, should have been a tip-off to millions.
BTW, piss-off for calling me a liar.
Generally I think you should report a stolen gun but Philly will do anyth8ng they can to harm gun owners.
Pennsylvania has a preemption law so all local ordinances are null and void. They can try to prosecute and bankrupt people in the fight but eventually they will lose. Hopefully they can then sue the city for wrongful prosecution.
With the IRS, Its Guilty until Proven Innocent
No, but the post from the guy you called a liar did.
