It turns out Mr. Phillips is not only NOT elderly (63), he is NOT a Vietnam veteran and, quite possibly, he is NOT more than a fraction Native American.* He is a full time activist who lives for these publicity stunts, being part of a crowd who was trying to break in and disrupt a Catholic mass later that same evening.
* FWIW, most Native Americans have a genetic marker that allows them to grow lush crops of hair on their head but little elsewhere on their bodies. If you look up close, Phillips is clearly balding the same places on the head as white men do.
