There is an old running song heard here and there in the USMC that references “recon ranger”. But it isn’t commonly used anywhere else. And no, this guy was not in battalion recon or Force recon, ANGLICO, or anything else like that.

I doubt he was even an 0311.

Seems like every basic Marine in the IRR where I saw many, many SRB’s started out as 0311’s (I mean unless they went on to something else). Yeah, I saw Harrier pilots, chopper pilots, etc. At that time there were about 100,000 in the IRR as I recall. Long, long ago (I was a civilian doing this work).

The first two AWOL’s he had were for about 6 days. Maybe he likes the firewater a bit too much?

Seems like extra-special effort to bust out as a Private after 4 years.
