To me the “individual not collective” element is crucial when punishment is coming. Not all the New Yorkers and Californians are bad, we know, and America has 62,979,636 Trump voters.
But as when in Genesis 18 Abraham was allowed by God to bargain with Him (even symbolically) about why destroy all 10,000 if there are 1,000 good ones among them, or all 50 if You found 10 good ones in Sodom and so on, will God “sweep away the righteous with the wicked”?
Let us pray He won’t.
