A prominent immigrant-rights activist launched a drive Tuesday to rewrite the American Pledge of Allegiance, saying as it stands now it’s a symbol of “rooted in nativism and white supremacy.”
Cesar Vargas, a “Dreamer” who came to the country illegally with his mother and now runs the Dream Action Coalition, says the pledge speaks to fear, while he wants to see a version imbued with “optimism.”
“The upgraded version should read: “I pledge allegiance and love to our indigenous and immigrant heritage, rooted in the United States of America, to our civil rights for which we strive, one voice, one nation, for equality and justice for all,’” Mr. Vargas wrote in a commentary piece for The Hill, a newspaper covering Congress and Washington.
He said incidents like “white teenagers harassing a Native American elder or chanting ‘build the wall’ at Mexican immigrants” cry out for a rethink of the way the country views itself.
Mr. Vargas also said the pledge should be taken with people facing each other, not just forward facing a flag at the front of a room, as a symbol of the diversity of those who make up America.

Little Cesar is an illegal, he has enjoyed the privileges of living in the US for years. He wants to stay here. He also feels free not to praise the United States for providing him with a pretty much free and comfortable life being protected by the charter of liberties our Constitution provides but to denigrate the country and demand a major bit of the public culture be changed to suit his views. Back in2005 when the huge ‘Yes we can’ demonstrations took place I noted to coworkers the title’yes we can’ means screw you gringo, in your face, we are taking what we want. “ Further, I pointed out all these clamoring illegals brandished lots of Mexican and Honduran and Salvadorean flags and led their parades with really big Mexican flags. Old Glory was conspicuously absent. If these folks love their native lands so much they should return there. But of course what this little jerk and all the others are saying is, ‘Hey Gringo, you gotta do what we want, we are calling the shots now.”
Yes, and this one and his mother are off to a slow start.

Well I’m a retired teacher who subs at various schools in my county and when I go to a school that’s mostly Hispanic and African-American few students stand for the pledge when I go to schools mostly white they almost all stand for the pledge so it’s happening now and it’s real.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Old news. The Pledge of Allegiance was called “racist” twenty years ago. These people need to think up something new.
Actually you are pledging to the flag AND the country for which it stands.
I once was at a woman’s event and the National Anthem began. Everyone turned toward the nearby flag and stood quietly or put their hand over their heart. Except one woman who turned her back to the flag and faced toward the crowd. I thought, well it’s a good thing you’re being a jerk in this country instead of many others where you would be hauled off and prosecuted/executed!

Anyone who thinks that illegal aliens are grateful to the United States is living in their own dream world.
There is a very large portion of latinos who believe that the American Southwest was stolen from Mexico and they resent white America.
Fools who pander to illegals are just that, fools.
While that is true, it’s not why immigrant activists despise the Pledge.
Snowflakes - they have neither the good sense to know when to STFU nor the ability to do it.
There it is in a nutshell. The treasonous democrats want to import millions of these aliens who will never assimilate and never bear true allegiance to America.
Such profound idiots. So few words. STFU, Vargas. GTFOOUSA and come back legally. Since you will not do that, don’t presume to tell Americans how to be Americans. You make white supremacy look attractive.
