And now there are reports, posted elsewhere on FR, that the drummer is not a Vietnam Veteran at all.

If he really is only 64 years old, the math doesn't work out. The last US soldiers left at the end of March '73. He would have needed to be in basic training by his 17th birthday (you have to figure about 5 months for basic and AIT before you can be deployed) to make it over there before everyone was withdrawn. I suppose that's possible, but it's very unlikely.

Am not 100% for sure, but I think the last Marines left out in 1971, which would make his claim even less tenable.
